I am a qualified journalist with over 30 years' experience in various areas of communication, including public relations and employee engagement. I have been freelancing since 2001, mainly providing writing, editing and proofreading services to the public sector, particularly health and social care organisations and government departments. Most of my work involves desk research, interviewing and advising on appropriate style and tone as well as content. A particular strength is getting to grips quickly with a subject. A number of my clients come back again and again, and I have built a reputation for reliability, attention to detail and a willingness to challenge assumptions (especially on the use of jargon) and propose fresh approaches to meet the needs of specific target audiences. I am always trying to add to my skills and knowledge, and I am a member of professional bodies such as the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, Institute of Internal Communication, Patient Information Forum and the Association for Healthcare Communications and Marketing.
